Looking for Acupuncture or Dry Needling in Milton Keynes or Olney?

At TOP Physiotherapy, our experienced physiotherapists use Acupuncture and Dry Needling as part of a comprehensive treatment approach to help reduce pain, improve movement, and support your recovery. Combined with hands-on therapy and rehabilitation exercises, these techniques can help you return to the activities you enjoy with confidence.

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a treatment technique that involves the insertion of very fine needles into specific points on the body. It is commonly used to help manage pain, reduce muscle tension, promote relaxation, and support the body's natural healing processes.

At TOP Physiotherapy, Acupuncture is used alongside physiotherapy treatment and rehabilitation to help optimise recovery and improve outcomes.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture (TCM)

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is an ancient healthcare practice that has been used for thousands of years. It is based on the principle that energy, known as Qi (pronounced "chee"), flows through pathways within the body called meridians. Acupuncture aims to restore balance within these pathways to support health and wellbeing.

What is Western Medical Acupuncture?

Western Medical Acupuncture is a modern, evidence-informed adaptation of traditional acupuncture. Following a thorough assessment, your physiotherapist will identify appropriate treatment points and use sterile, single-use needles to stimulate the body's natural pain-relieving and healing responses.

A number of needles may be used during treatment and are typically left in place for 15–30 minutes.

What is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling, also known as Trigger Point Acupuncture, targets tight or sensitive muscles that may be contributing to pain or restricted movement. The needle is inserted directly into the affected muscle to help release tension, improve muscle function, and reduce discomfort.

Unlike traditional acupuncture, Dry Needling treatments are often quicker, with needles inserted and removed once the desired muscle response has been achieved.

Benefits of Acupuncture & Dry Needling

  • Reduce pain and muscle tension

  • Support the body's natural healing processes

  • Improve movement and flexibility

  • Promote relaxation and wellbeing

  • Complement physiotherapy and rehabilitation programmes

  • Help support recovery from injury

Is Acupuncture Right for You?

If you're experiencing pain, muscle tightness, or recovering from injury, Acupuncture or Dry Needling may be a useful addition to your treatment plan. Our physiotherapists will discuss your symptoms, goals, and preferences before recommending the most appropriate treatment approach.
